Our last class just happened. AHHH!!! I am going to miss you all so much. Thanks for being such a wonderful group of students and for all your hard work this semester.
If you were out today, please make sure to bring in your textbook on Monday. I am going to count this as a homework grade! Please also complete the course survey and review - both are posted on Google Classroom. If you are missing any work, turn it in by Tuesday.
Come visit, email, etc - stay in touch!
Hello my Advanced Nutrition students!
I cannot believe it's the last week of our class! As I type this, your posters are printing at Staples. AHH!
Today, we did a bit of review of fuel sources of exercise as well as macronutrient needs. Assuming all goes well with the poster printing, we will do an activity with those in class tomorrow and resume sports nutrition Wednesday. Here are the notes from today. You don't have any homework for tonight!
We started Sports Nutrition today and will work on this through next week. The slides and notes are available here.
You have homework due Monday - check it out here. Basically, you are going to watch a few short videos on EdPuzzle, read, and summarize what you've learned. Please don't spend more than 30 minutes.
If you have any final edits to make to your poster, please have those done by Monday! I am printing before 2pm!
Welcome back! 1) I can't believe I haven't seen you guys in 5 days and 2) WE ONLY HAVE 6 DAYS LEFT IN THE SEMESTER! AHH!!!
Today, we finished up energy balance by reviewing the energy balance equation and summarizing the genetic, metabolic, and sociocultural factors that might influence weight. You can find the guided notes and slides on the notes page.
I also gave you feedback on your posters, which I am expecting you to implement by tomorrow. I am fine with you finishing the edits by tomorrow night, but they must be done by then. I am going to send the posters to print tomorrow night!!! YAY!
If you have any questions, send me an email or stop by - I'll be here after school as well. I'll give you the first few minutes of class tomorrow to ask me any remaining questions, and then we're diving into sports nutrition!
Have a great Thursday! --KR
Happy ((balmy)) Friday everyone!
Today in class you'll get a chance to finalize your poster content. Because we will be spending PRECIOUS class time working on this, I'm sending you home with some homework. You'll need to read, talk, and reflect about energy balance prior to our discussion on Thursday. I'll be grading you on your participation in the discussion but I haven't decided whether it will be small group or full class - I may ask for your input today and then edit this post.
Anywho, I've posted the flipped classroom homework assignment here. I've also posted poster roles to help you out in class today here.
SENIORS - you have your last day with Mrs. Lamere and Mr. Skrocki on Wednesday the 17th. I won't see you until 1.18.18 which is why your HW isn't due until then.
Still in disbelief that our class is over so soon. We are going to cover exercise next week and maybe a day the week after, present posters, practice designing meals on a budget, and then that's it. WHAAAAAAAAAT!
Have the best day ever,
To recap - today we learned about antioxidants. I'm going to post the slides and notes up on the website. In addition, many of you still need to pass in the MINERALS GRAPHIC ORGANIZER and watch the EdPuzzle video. Please have both of these assignments completed by tomorrow.
Also, I found a couple articles to answer the questions you had in class today about Aox. Here they are:
Cigarette smoke and free radicals
How antioxidants quench free radicals and don't become free radicals themselves
Another one on the above topic
Have a great afternoon!
First of all, I just realized today is 1.8.18 and I think that looks really cool. Second, a class update! Today, we summarized minerals - why they are important for the body and food sources of iodine, calcium, and iron. You can find that information towards the end of the Vitamins & Minerals slides. I will post the handout on the notes page and you can also find it here.
If you haven't already, don't forget to complete your minerals graphic organizer and watch the Ed Puzzle videos!
That's all for now.
Happy Snow Day, my lovely Advanced Nutrition students!
Okay, so I know this is a LITTLE late in the semester BUT one of my New Year's "intentions" is to get more organized with all of my classes. Google Classroom is great but let's be real - everything get's lost in that running scroll! So, for the last 4 weeks of the semester (insert crying face emoji) you can check out this blog for class updates. I'll also be posting all assignments and due dates on this site as well.
If you missed class Tuesday or Wednesday, you missed a boatload of vitamin and mineral fun. On Tuesday, we recapped VITAMINS and talked a bit more about B12. I'll link to the notes and handout. For homework, you had to watch a couple videos on EdPuzzle and look through some handouts about calcium, iron, and iodine.
Wednesday, we did a small group activity where I assigned students to groups to summarize information about calcium, iron, and iodine. I'll post the notes and assignments on the website and link to them here.
Your homework for WEDNESDAY night (1.3.18) was to review your classmate's work and fill in the graphic organizer for minerals. If you aren't able to see everyone's work on Google Classroom, you can review the videos and notes I posted Tuesday night.
As always, if anything is unclear, send me an email!
